The southern Sri Lanka high-speed extension line is open to traffic
In the afternoon local time on February 23th, the extension of the southern Sri Lanka Expressway, which ELECO has participated in the construction, was opened to traffic. Sri Lankan President Gotabaya, Prime Minister Rajapaksa, and Chinese Ambassador Cheng Xueyuan attended the opening ceremony to unveil the ribbon-opening monument. Rajapaksa made a speech at the opening ceremony.
The 96-kilometer extension of the southern Sri Lanka Expressway is one of the representative projects of the 21st Century Maritime Silk Road between China and Sri Lanka. Its completion has greatly shortened the travel time from the capital Colombo to the southern Hambantota port. It has provided great convenience for the people along the route. The first work area of Package one and the third work area of Package three undertaken by ELECO were successfully completed in accordance with the contract, and ELECO had a good reputation from the general contractor AVIC International and the China Construction Third Engineering Bureau.
